sooo...there was a course taught for the ling grads about the biology of the speech mechanism
and they received a disembodied head

and they took apart the facial skin, and excised the tongue
but...
they took out the brain to look at some piece of the auditory mechanism (not sure what) and realized that the person lacked some essential part of the mechanism
and they couldn't finish the research

but the person in charge of the brain - some professor from another university - seemed to disappear from prof XXXX's contact
so they were left with this brain that wasn't of use to them
and then XXXX retired, and prof yyyyy is now stuck with the brain, and so it just hangs out in room ### where experiments are run
and where i had my midnight lab sessions

it's not being taken care of at all, it just hangs out in a cabinet with screws and paintbrushes
it's not refrigerated....
laurel and i just discovered it one day when we were recording stuff and had a heart attack

I will inquire further about the "brain" Saterday.
the brain is disturbing ... so disturbing. Jacqueline and I discovered it this summer. We were looking all over for a book, and we decided to try this random neglected closet, and we saw this big bucket with weird-colored liquid in it, and on the lid was written something like "human brain" and a date (from several years ago, I might add) and the bucket was kind of transluscent, so apart from weird-colored liquid inside, you could see the brain in there just hanging out. It was really frightening. The other linguists are kind of at a loss as to what to do with it.
